Review Winter Promises by A.C. James

AMAZON

This short story was although highly erotic, never really satisfying in a way that tickled the reader in me. It had more a feeling of being a chapter from a book than that of a short. There was no real beginning, nor a real end.

So if you want to read an erotic scene with no real substance this is the—I hesitate to call this a book—thing to reach for. If you expect a well rounded story with a proper arc and characters that have substance look somewhere else.

However, I have to be honest, I did like it. It might not be a literary masterpiece, and have a title that has nothing to do with the content, but it was a nice read never-the-less.

His past holds a secret…

Arie Cush has a secret that he thought he’d left behind. When his past follows him to Chicago he must protect someone that reminds him of all the painful memories he’s tried so hard to forget. But when every touch from her sets his heart and body on fire—he finds it hard to maintain his aloof façade.

That becomes her nightmare.

Holly Ellis has secrets of her own. An encounter with the handsome stranger who frequents her coffee shop reveals a vampire with baggage. Even though it might be more than she bargained for, she can’t resist the one person who understands her. But her life is in danger and a supernatural threat could reveal the underground world of vampires to humankind in this Gothic Cinderella re-telling.

Inside Scoop: This story contains bondage, anal play, a M/F primary romance with mild F/F situations.

Warning: This book is fictitious. The bdsm portrayed in this story does not portray the lifestyle. Vampires will be vampires. They don’t exactly stop to discuss a scene, pain thresholds, and there is no aftercare involved. Trust is an intrinsic part of the lifestyle. Use due diligence and research before deciding to make fiction into reality.

Heat Level: This book is a steamy romance. It’s the development of a romantic relationship that contains more explicit language and sex.

The Hellfire Club

(Or Shall We Say the Original Kinksters)

I want to share with you the fascinating history that inspired the Chicago sex club in Cursed Ever After and my newest release Eternal Ever After.

For those of you not familiar with the history of the Hellfire Club, it was the name of several exclusive clubs for high society ranks in 18th century Britain and Ireland.

It provided a safe meeting place for people to participate in immoral acts. Basically, it was rumored to be a sex club and the first Hellfire Club was founded in London in 1719, by Philip, Duke of Wharton and a handful of his highfalutin friends.

The most notorious club that was associated with this name was established in England by Sir Francis Dashwood. The club met from around 1749 to around 1760. In its later years, the Hellfire was closely associated with Brooks’s (est. 1764). Other clubs using the name “Hellfire Club” were set up throughout the 18th century. Most of them were set up in Ireland after Wharton’s was dispelled.

Being the perverted Scotch-Irish lass that I am, I just had to incorporate the history—using it fictitiously. Especially after falling in love with their motto: Fais ce que tu voudras (Do what thou wilt), a philosophy of life associated with François Rabelais’ fictional abbey at Thélème and later used by Aleister Crowley.

So do what thou wilt and I hope you enjoy Eternal Ever After!

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.”
Holy Bible: King James Version

I never guessed that I could die with a sea of faces surrounding me, all cheering for my death. A woman wearing a jacket dress made of brocade only laughed louder when blood splattered the low square neckline. Where is Arie? I scanned the crowded club but all I could see were pale faces, some half covered by masks. My time had come and I prayed she would finish me off quickly. The warm trickle of blood ran down my neck and chest, saturating the corset bustier of my gown. It seemed like a shame to ruin such a pretty dress. Strangely, I felt relieved the bodice was black and not a light color that would show a stain.

The fear of dying or more accurately, the fear of not existing, scared me stiff. Perhaps if I had satisfied this existential anxiety with faith I wouldn’t jump from panic to ambivalence. I should be angry at everyone who simply watched. They must think the gruesome display is part of the entertainment for tonight. After the bloody burlesque show I could hardly blame them.

Holly, I gave you the chance to leave. The telepathic transference hardly seemed relevant at this point. I knew if I’d never gone to the Hellfire Club, I wouldn’t be facing death now. Still, if my death meant the killings would stop it seemed justifiable.

“No!” I could barely hear Arie scream above the cheering voices clamoring for attention. The constant drone defies my effort to form coherent thoughts. I looked up and could see him on the balcony. When I blinked he had disappeared into the throng. I could feel the blood continue to trickle down my neck as she drained me. Dizziness threatened to pull me under. The audience applauded her brutality. I crumpled at her feet, looking up at her smile as thin as paper.

Blood. So much blood. My blood.

I didn’t want this to be the story of my death but this part is only a fragment of a narrative as old as time. Its voices fill the shadows with whispers of legend. We are told that the damned cease to exist and those absolved from sin are given eternal life. The damned can never be saved. They walk the earth in an eternal hell. I fear it will be my curse if death doesn’t claim me instead.

What is the book about?

When Jayden Masterson – a gentleman Dom with a taste for perfection – meets Catherine O’Chancey – a submissive with a mysterious past and a natural desire to submit – he can’t resist the spark that ignites inside him. He wants to learn everything about her – not just her body, but does she want the same? Can Catherine stand up to her past and find the right Dom who can make her feel alive again?

To find that out you’ll have to get your copy and read the whole book. 🙂 What I can, and will do is show you a small excerpt below.

”Dad didn’t scare you, did he? I know he can get a little excited when he gets going on his horses.”Malcolm Masterson had made his place in the world by breeding and racing thoroughbred stallions. He was quite proud of his charter membership in the Texas Thoroughbred Association and how many of his stallions had made the top five on the Sire List. Jayden was right, his dad did like to talk about them, but he was harmless – he just loved what he did.”What? No. Malcolm was great. I got to see where you get your good looks and talent for being in control,” she teased Jayden, trying to change the direction her mood was heading after imagining Jayden in a future without her.

“So now you know I’ve got staying power,” Jayden teased right back, throwing in a smirk.

His lips were hovering over her mouth while his eyes bored into hers.

When did he get so close? Erin thought while seeing her wide-eyed reflection in his shiny, brown eyes.

Lowering his voice again, his next words didn’t help the already hazy soup her brain was turning into under the intensity of his gaze.

“And us?”

She didn’t get a chance to answer because the plane hit some turbulence at that moment and bounced them together. The moment their lips smashed together all talk ceased, and she became complacent in his arms. They spent the remainder of the flight making out like teenagers.

Miraculously, all of their clothes stayed on. When they exited the plane and descended to the tarmac at Love Field, Micah waited with the car. His presence reminded them of the intricate dynamics of the relationship they had and there was an unspoken agreement that while Jayden and Erin could keep the memory of the weekend, they wouldn’t speak of what had transpired on the plane just then. It was too raw, too risky.

Featured Author – Penelope Jones

IS- Aftermath Gelz Graphic

Today the lovely Penelope Jones, aka Bad Penny, joins me for a spanking. Erm, I mean, grilling. Shoot! Interview, yes, I’m interviewing her. Sorry Penny, you can sit, there will be no spanking. 🙂

How did you get the nick name ‘Bad Penny’?

One of the first author friends of mine, Caster Rowe started it, and honestly, it’s truly fitting.

I can see why. *snickers*

When did you start writing those saucy stories?

I started writing around the age of 11, but didn’t get serious about it until just over a year ago.

Have they evolved? I mean, do you write more daring now than when you first started?

Actually as crazy as this is going to sound, I’ve become tamer. Everyone pick your jaw up on the floor; it’s true.

Have you ever wrote in another genre? Or if you were to be obliged to take all the racy stuff out of your books, what genre would they be in?

I’ve never written anything except erotic romance with strong BDSM tendencies for the most part. But I guess if I took out all the racy stuff, they’d still be total romances.

fabulous

Is there any kind of food or beverage a constant in your books and/or life?

Constant foods or drinks? Umm… Orange Crush! And any lovely grocery store carries it!

-If so can you give us the recipe?

*points up*

angry todler

Okay! I get it!  🙂

And to end this first part of the interview, can you give us an anecdote none has heard before? You know a little ‘dirty’ secret? (I’m perfectly okay with it if you make something up, but you’ll have to cough up and tell us it’s all just fantasy. 🙂

I have a 7 pound Chiweenie named Bizzy, and she’s the only dog I’ve ever owned myself. Oh, and I saved her, and wouldn’t trade her for a million bucks!

That is so … Hahaha, a Chiweenie? Really? You shouldn’t allow her to ride to the snackshop.

dog in chariot

Now let’s get serious. What is the title of the book you want to talk about?

It’s an erotic poetry book; Iniquitous Solace: The Aftermath

IS-A-BookCover2013

Available at Amazon US and UK

Did you have any problem coming up with that one?

No… the moment I began to recreate what someone else destroyed; I knew exactly what the title should be!

Do you ever speak to your characters to get them to do what you want, or are they basically running the show?

Nope… I totally let them run the show. Or at least I try!

What would stop you from writing? And what would spark a new idea?

I truly can’t think of anything, but life does get delay things. heh  And anything can spark a new idea: a grocery store trip, a text message, or a great story from a friend; you just never know.

What gave you the idea for this book?

Cara Bristol is a fellow erotica writer, and she encouraged me to do a poetry book. I just dabbled in poetry until she convinced me it was good enough to print. Thank you Cara!!!

What have you done to get this book the attention you want it to have. i.e. How do you go about marketing? And what do you feel works best?

Blogging, Tumblr, Google+, Twitter, Facebook, Triberr, and ASMSG! And honestly Twitter, Triberr, and ASMSG have been my best marketing tools to spread the word, but I think my personal relationships I build with my readers is the best marketing tool ever. I truly care about their day to day lives just as they seem to mine. Twitter has done the best job of this for me, and I swear by it!

You know, I kind of like twitter and it’s direct feel too. But it is highly addictive though. 🙂

Do you have anything else you’d like to share about the book, or yourself? Feel free to shoot your mouth off. 🙂 Blab, ramble or be as incoherent as you like, just make sure we are entertained. Hahahaha

While my book has to be considered erotica due to sexual content… it’s really a romantic tragedy turned into an amazing story of triumph; a beautiful woman emerges stronger and even better than before the relationships. She spreads her wings and flies like the gorgeous butterfly she was meant to be.

Iniquitous Solace: The Aftermath is written like a story of a dominant and submissive from the beginning of a relationship to the end, but it’s not about one particular relationship in general.

It’s for every bad relationship you’ve ever had, it’s for every love story you ever started, it’s for the romantic in you, and for those that no matter how bad things seem, you still champion for love!

Thanks for letting me hang out with you, Lucy! You’re the best!

xoxo
